No time for this!

 I've struggled with decorating for as long as I can remember, especially when it involves growing live plants! For the longest time the space in front of my house was literally a blank canvas!! Slowly, and 100% with my husbands help, we've worked to transform it. For the most part, the plants that get rained on and mother nature can grow them without my help, have survived and some have thrived - as long as we can keep the weeds away (well, eventually clear out the weeds again).  The front porch is a different story.

I stay busy and during the school year, I mean busy all the time! Life happens around here. I'm sure you can relate! I don't have time to tend to plants on a weekly basis much less a daily basis! This year I found a solution! I have no idea why I had not thought of this before! It has truly transformed the way I feel when I step out on my front porch! I also must say it is NOT cheating, it is a solution to a busy life!

Have you guessed where I'm heading with this? Artificial plants!!! My porch is now filled with artificial, UV resistant plants, and I LOVE it!!

I started with the ferns. I cannot tell you how many ferns I have scorched over the years, but no more! I dug around on Amazon and finally found the ones I felt would work the best . . .

I didn't want to spend too much, but I wanted to get some realistic looking ferns for my two huge planters that my husband made for me. These worked perfectly! I only put one in each planter, but you could put two in the same planter for a fuller look. I was perfectly ok with the way these turned out with one in each planter.

One of my purchases, pictured next, isn't available anymore in the spring colors, but the fall version looks lovely! This is the battle I've been contemplating next - would it be acceptable to keep the spring colors, or should I order a fall spread?

It's not academia, and most wouldn't even consider it that big of a deal, but there is a very valuable lesson here. Take the little things that you can control, that will make you feel better and accomplished, and you will be surprised at the little bit of joy it brings you. That joy filters to your family! My daughter was so excited that our front porch finally looked complete before her graduation party! It only took YEARS for me to finally take hold of a simple, workable solution - and that is ok!

Starting Off on the Right Foot

The beginning of the school year always marks an important time in our household. Everyone is putting their best foot forward to get things arranged, organized, planned, and a sense of excitement with appropriate anxiousness shows the positivity of another new beginning.  I realize this may not be the case in every household, but I want to help you experience the joy this always brings my family.
